Jennie’s Story

Jennie Antequera was exhausted, working three jobs, and on the verge of giving up on nursing school. Then she met Primax. This is her story.

“There are moments in life when one act of kindness can change everything. For me, that moment came when the Primax Foundation chose to believe in me.

When I began nursing school, I did not qualify for financial aid and felt completely overwhelmed by how I was going to move forward. As a single mother of three, I was working three jobs just to survive, trying to save every dollar so I could put myself through school. I was exhausted, discouraged, and afraid—but I refused to give up. Being selected for the Primax Foundation scholarship was more than financial support; it was hope when I needed it most.

The compassion shown by the Primax Foundation went far beyond tuition assistance. When they learned that the laptop I had was not suitable for the program, they stepped in and provided one for me without hesitation. That gesture alone brought me to tears. It showed me that they truly cared—not just about my education, but about me.

Because of their support, I was able to focus on my studies instead of constantly worrying about how many hours I needed to work just to make ends meet or cover the program. I graduated the LVN program, making the Dean’s list. One year of becoming an LVN, my life began to transform in ways I never thought possible. I was able to move my children out of low-income housing and into a beautiful three-bedroom, two-bath home with a two-car garage and a yard. I no longer depended on government assistance. That first Christmas, I was able to fulfill my children’s Christmas lists without fear, guilt, or having to choose which gift I could afford. Watching their faces light up was something I will never forget.

Nursing has filled my heart in ways I cannot fully put into words. Knowing that I am helping others heal, recover, and feel cared for gives my life purpose. After one year as an LVN, I felt called to return to school and pursue my RN. Once I earned my RN, more doors opened than I ever imagined. I was able to purchase my first brand-new car—a 2024 Kia Sportage. Within one year, I stepped into a nurse supervisor role, a milestone that once felt completely out of reach.

My journey didn’t stop there. I was able to move from Texas to Florida and purchase my very first home—something I had always dreamed of but never believed would truly happen. Living near the beach has brought a peace to my life that I had never known before. My children still look at me in disbelief and pride, amazed that their mom is a nurse. Every day, I hope they see that perseverance, faith, and hard work can change the trajectory of one’s life.

What makes the Primax Foundation truly extraordinary is that their support never ended. They stayed in contact with me throughout my entire nursing journey, and even today, they continue to reach out to see how I am doing—not just as a nurse, but as a person. They walked alongside me every step of the way.

I have now been a nurse for five years, and I can say with complete certainty that I would not be where I am today without the Primax Foundation. They didn’t just help me earn a degree—they helped me build a future for myself and my children. I am forever grateful for their belief in me, and I hope they continue changing lives, just as they so beautifully changed mine.”
