Maryeli’s Story
“My name is Maryeli Rubi Navarrete Rivera, and I am a student of Medicine with a specialization in Anesthesia and Resuscitation.”
With the support of the scholarship program, Maryeli is preparing to begin her fourth year of university, a milestone she reaches with gratitude and determination. “Thanks to the opportunity you have given me,” she shares, “I have made positive progress in my studies and will soon begin the next academic period with a good average and stable academic performance.”
Maryeli’s academic journey has required discipline, consistency, and perseverance. Medical studies are demanding, and for students facing financial limitations, the challenge can be even greater. The scholarship has provided essential stability—allowing her to remain focused on her education, maintain strong academic performance, and continue progressing without interruption.
As she enters this next phase of her studies, Maryeli will also begin hospital internships, gaining hands-on experience in real clinical settings. These internships represent a critical step in her professional formation, allowing her to apply classroom learning to patient care while developing the skills required in a high-responsibility medical field. She approaches this opportunity with both seriousness and enthusiasm, recognizing it as a foundational part of her preparation.
Throughout her journey, Maryeli has remained mindful of the trust placed in her through the scholarship program. That trust has been a source of motivation, encouraging her to pursue excellence and to move forward with integrity and commitment.
Maryeli’s story reflects the heart of the scholarship’s mission: empowering students through education and sustained support. As she prepares to enter her fourth year of medical studies, she continues forward with gratitude, focus, and a clear desire to serve others through her future work in medicine.
Maryeli’s journey is part of the broader mission of the Shimsangbouk Scholarship, which supports students in the Cristo Rey community—one of the most economically challenged areas in Nicaragua. Established in memory of Shimsangbouk and his lifelong dedication to education, the scholarship provides stability and opportunity for students pursuing higher education and professional training. Through continued support and accompaniment, the program helps students like Maryeli focus on their studies and move forward with confidence, carrying a legacy of service, perseverance, and hope into their future work.
